“Jinsui, are you feeling better?”
Hearing this, Nian Jinsui felt the voice was somewhat unfamiliar.
He looked up and noticed a middle-aged man standing behind Qin Chengyu. The man was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, exuding an air of elegance and warmth. His gaze was filled with concern and affection.
Nian Jinsui recognized him immediately—it was his Alpha father, Lin Shuqian, Nian Yixin’s partner.
Although it was their first meeting, Nian Jinsui didn’t feel unfamiliar. On the contrary, he felt a sense of closeness and familiarity, reminiscent of his original father. His father had also worn glasses and, like Lin Shuqian, would always gently ask if he was hurt after a fall and encourage him to get up on his own instead of rushing to help.
“Father, I’m fine now,” Nian Jinsui said with a serene smile, standing up.
Seeing that Nian Jinsui had recovered, Qin Chengyu suggested, “Uncle Lin, Uncle Nian, it’s a bit stuffy here. Why don’t we move to the living room to chat?”
“Sure, let’s all head out,” Lin Shuqian agreed with a nod.
At that moment, Nian Jinsui suddenly received a notification from Xi Lü.
[Friendly Reminder: This month, the host has inflicted 22 damage points on Qin Chengyu—2 points for physical harm and 20 points for psychological harm. Please continue your efforts to complete the assessment task as soon as possible.]
Nian Jinsui was stunned. It was only the 1st of the month—how had the score already reached 22 points?
The 2 points for physical harm were understandable, but how had he caused Qin Chengyu 20 points of psychological harm?
He suddenly remembered the system’s previous hint: Qin Chengyu is jealous.
Scanning the room, Nian Jinsui understood.
Having lost his parents at a young age and suffered mistreatment in the Qin family, Qin Chengyu likely yearned deeply for familial love. Seeing how much Nian Yixin and Lin Shuqian cared for Nian Jinsui must have been painful for him.
Qin Chengyu was definitely jealous of how happy Nian Jinsui’s family was!
Poor thing, Nian Jinsui thought with a sigh.
In the living room, Butler Liu didn’t forget to ask Nian Jinsui, “Young master, will you still have a fitness meal tonight?”
Nian Jinsui responded, “Sure, Uncle Liu. By the way, did you know my dad and father were coming back today?”
Smiling, Butler Liu replied, “Mr. Nian and Mr. Lin wanted to surprise you, so they kept it a secret.”
Nian Yixin interjected, “It’s the start of a new year, so we must celebrate with a feast!”
“I agree,” Nian Jinsui added. “It’s more important to welcome Dad and Father home. Let’s postpone the fitness meals for now.”
“Understood, young master. I’ll inform the kitchen right away,” Butler Liu said as he left the room.
“Jinsui, do you have any plans for the New Year holidays?” Nian Yixin asked, knowing that Jinsui usually traveled abroad during this time.
Shaking his head, Nian Jinsui replied, “I don’t want to go anywhere. I just want to spend time with you at home.”
According to the novel’s storyline, their time as father and son would only last about six months. Since Nian Yixin and Lin Shuqian often stayed abroad, Nian Jinsui wanted to cherish this time together.
Though surprised, Nian Yixin was delighted. “Alright! In fact, we have a hot spring resort on the outskirts of town. Why don’t we all go there to relax?”
Lin Shuqian agreed enthusiastically. “That’s a great idea, Xiaoxin. It’s been a long time since our family spent time together.”
Nian Jinsui readily agreed but noticed Qin Chengyu’s awkwardness. After all, Qin Chengyu should logically spend the New Year with the Qin family.
Sensing Nian Jinsui’s glance toward Qin Chengyu, Nian Yixin asked, “Chengyu, would you prefer to return to the Qin family or join us on vacation?”
“Whatever you arrange is fine,” Qin Chengyu replied calmly, his tone betraying no preference.
Nian Jinsui guessed Qin Chengyu didn’t want to impose. As a member of the Qin family, spending New Year with the Nian family might seem inappropriate.
However, recalling Qin Chenglu’s presence at the Qin household, Nian Jinsui grew uneasy. If Qin Chengyu went back, wouldn’t he be walking into the lion’s den? Remembering the injuries Qin Chengyu suffered last time, Nian Jinsui couldn’t bear the thought of him getting hurt again.
And there was still the task to complete!
Nian Jinsui quickly suggested, “Dad, could you talk to the Qin family? Chengyu didn’t return for the Mid-Autumn Festival, so skipping New Year shouldn’t be an issue. Let him join us for the vacation.”
Nian Yixin, who rarely denied Nian Jinsui’s requests, quickly agreed. “Alright, I’ll speak with Mr. Qin. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
Nian Jinsui beamed with joy, and even Qin Chengyu’s expression softened visibly.
“Thank you for your trouble, Uncle Nian,” Qin Chengyu said.
“No trouble at all,” Nian Yixin replied with a smile. “By the way, Chengyu, it’s been a while since I last saw you. You’ve gained weight, gotten stronger, and seem more cheerful.”
Nian Jinsui couldn’t help but gloat. “That’s all thanks to me.”
Qin Chengyu’s smile deepened. “Yes, all thanks to Jinsui.”
Nian Yixin noticed Qin Chengyu’s smile and looked thoughtfully between the two of them.
On the 28th of the lunar calendar, after giving the household staff a holiday, the Nian family of three and Qin Chengyu packed up and headed to the resort in a single car.
Seated in the back, Nian Jinsui received a notification from his school group: final exam results were out.
As expected, his grades were terrible—he ranked at the very bottom.
“Chengyu, the final grades are out. What’s your student ID? Let me check for you,” Nian Jinsui asked.
After Qin Chengyu shared his student ID, Nian Jinsui saw that his grades were average—not great but not bad either.
Curious, Nian Yixin asked from the front seat, “How did you two do?”
Nian Jinsui smiled wryly. “Dad, if you love me, don’t ask.”
